Consider What Implant Surgery Involves

To grasp why implant work doesn’t hurt, you’ll first need to know what it entails. After all, dental implant surgery always involves three specific elements. The first is that the treating dentist (or oral surgeon) makes a gum incision to create room for your prosthetic. Next, the dentist places your implant (or implants, if multiple teeth are being replaced) using advanced methods and dental technology. Last but not least, the dentist closes your gum incision and puts a small cap over your post.  

Following surgery, your dental implants will slowly fuse with your jaw. This process occurs in the months after placement, though; it doesn’t happen as part of your surgery.

• Numb your cheek and mouth with ice packs or cold compresses.
• Until your treatment site heals, avoid hard foods that might irritate it.

You should expect post-surgery soreness to fade completely after the two-week mark. If it doesn’t, please see your dental provider for help; you may have an oral infection.

While they may come with some post-op discomfort, all in all, getting dental implants doesn’t hurt. You’d be wise to give them some serious consideration if you have missing teeth.
